Divorce & Separation
If you are in a divorce proceeding or contemplating ending your marriage, I understand this is a very stressful, emotional, and difficult time. With over twenty-five years of legal, (and much more life,) experience, I will strive to guide you through this area of law that is about so much more than the divorce statutes written in the Texas Family Code.
Separation
Texas has no legal separation statute. You are either married or divorced. Texas does provide for a complete living apart arrangement, but only under the divorce context, i.e., if you are looking for a "separation agreement," you must file a petition for divorce requesting temporary orders. The temporary orders can include all provisions relating to custody, visitation, child support, division of debts and liabilities, and, importantly, division of management and control of assets and liabilities.
Divorce
If you are seeking counsel in the San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas, area concerning a divorce, I can help you resolve:
- Property division issues, including the valuation and distribution of your joint, (community property) assets and debts, and determination of your separate property.
- Child custody, either initial or modified, involving decision-making authority for your children, their temporary or permanent physical placement, and visitation schedules
- Child support and maintenance matters, initial or modification orders
- Spousal support or alimony
- Defense/Responses to Texas Attorney General actions for paternity, divorce, or child support.
